Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate are these exchange rates?
The rates are sourced from the European Central Bank (ECB), which publishes official reference rates every weekday at around 4 PM CET. These are mid-market rates — the midpoint between buy and sell rates. Banks and currency exchange services add a margin (spread) on top of this, so the actual rate you get when exchanging money will be slightly different. For travel budgeting, international invoicing and financial reference, ECB rates are highly reliable.
How often are rates updated?
The European Central Bank publishes rates every weekday (Monday–Friday). Rates do not update on weekends or bank holidays, so the tool will show the last published rate on those days. The exact date of the rate is always displayed so you know how fresh the data is.
Can I use this for financial transactions?
This tool is best used as a reference and for budgeting purposes. For actual financial transactions, always use your bank or a regulated money transfer service which will show you the exact rate they are offering, including their fees and margin. ECB rates are reference rates and do not include transaction costs.
Why are some currencies missing?
The tool includes all 30 currencies tracked by the European Central Bank. Currencies not tracked by the ECB (such as the Pakistani Rupee PKR, Bangladeshi Taka BDT, or many African currencies) are not available. The ECB focuses on major global and European currencies used in international trade and finance.
