Frequently Asked Questions
How does the word counter count words?
Words are counted by splitting text on whitespace — spaces, tabs and newlines. Hyphenated words like "well-being" count as one word. Numbers and contractions like "don't" each count as one word. This matches the standard used by Microsoft Word and Google Docs.
Does character count include spaces?
The tool shows both — characters with spaces and characters without spaces. Most social media platforms count all characters including spaces. SEO tools like Yoast count characters with spaces for title and meta description length.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time is based on a silent reading speed of 200 words per minute — a commonly accepted average for adult readers. A 1,000-word article will show approximately 5 minutes. Technical content may take longer; casual content may be faster.
Is there a word limit?
No — there is no word or character limit. You can paste an entire book. Everything runs in your browser, so performance depends on your device only.
Does this tool save my text?
No. Your text is never sent to any server and is never stored. Everything runs locally. When you close the tab, the text is gone.
